Steamboat Announces Opening Day With Perks for Early Skiers
Despite the unfortunate dry spell much of the western U.S. has been facing this fall and early winter, a few resorts have gotten enough snow to start spinning lifts, and some even have more on the way.Â
Colorado, in particular, has already seen several ski resort openings, and while it may have been a bit of a waiting game for others, that waiting seems to have paid off.
This weekend, Routt County skiers can rejoice—Steamboat Ski Resort has officially confirmed its opening day!Â
If there’s one thing Steamboat knows, it’s how to throw a good party. The northern Colorado ski area got a few inches of snow this week, and in combination with snowmaking efforts, the resort will open on Saturday, November 22.Â
The 2026 POWDER Photo Annual is here! Look for a print copy on a newsstand near you, or click here to have a copy shipped directly to your front door.
Steamboat Resort is also planning to reward those who waited patiently for ski season and are planning to get first chair on opening day.
The first 100 guests in line will get a limited-edition opening day t-shirt, designed by local apparel and screen printing company, Ohana. If free stuff isn’t convincing enough, Ohana is known for making really soft t-shirts.Â
It wouldn’t be Steamboat if there weren’t champagne in the mix too (maybe they really trademarked Champagne Powderâ„¢ as an excuse to serve bubbly at every possible event). Mimosas and donuts will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. while supplies last.
If you miss out on an Ohana shirt or donut, the resort will be hiding more prizes, including SmartWool ski socks and tickets to the annual bluegrass festival, WinterWonderGrass, around the mountain, and posting clues to their Instagram account.Â
It wouldn’t be an event happening in Steamboat without bluegrass music, either, and Grateful Dead bluegrass cover band, Pickin’ on the Dead, will perform a free concert at the base of the mountain from 1 to 4 p.m. on opening day.
There’s no ski experience that feels as much like home as bombin’ down Heavenly Daze, a game of HammerSchlagen at T-bar, and a Storm Peak beer après. Happy (almost) Opening Day, Steamboat!
