Rocky Mountain National Park’s Trail Ridge Road Is Officially Closed For The Winter

Trail Ridge Road closed at Many Parks Curve in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park closed on Friday, November 14th, as winter weather was creeping in toward Colorado. Trail Ridge Road runs from the east side to the west side of the National Park, taking drivers along 11 miles of road above 11,500 feet.

The road is closed from the Many Parks Curve on the east side to the Colorado River Trailhead on the west side. With the high altitude, few guard rails, and no shoulders, Trail Ridge Road really isn’t designed for the winter season.

Winter conditions often include drifting snow, high winds, and below-freezing temperatures above 10,000 feet. Normally the road is closed in mid-October and opens again to thru travel during the last week in May, as long as weather allows. In 2025, the road opened on May 30th.

Those hoping to visit the park throughout the winter can still enjoy several popular scenic driving destinations, including Bear Lake Road, Endovalley Road, and Trail Ridge Road on both the west side and east side of the park.
