Mammoth Mountain Says It’s Ready After New Storm Transforms the Slopes

Mammoth Mountain, California, is bouncing back.

After a storm failed to deliver as much snow as expected late last week, the ski resort delayed its opening date. But now as the temperatures plummet and the snow begins to stack up, Mammoth Mountain has confirmed a new season kick off, this time on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The first chair is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.

“Thanks to the teamwork of Mother Nature and our snowmaking crews, these colder temps have enabled us to make substantial progress on our base,” the ski resort wrote in a social media post. Between seven and 16 inches of snow have fallen at Mammoth Mountain since Sunday, November 16, 2025.

Mammoth plans to share more operational details, including which lifts and runs will be open, soon. Check out a screenshot of Mammoth’s Main Lodge webcam below from today, November 17, 2025.

It’s a rapid change of fortunes for the ski resort. Last week, when Mammoth Mountain announced its delay, the ski resort’s lower elevation slopes were barren. Now, at the Main Lodge, snow is falling heavily and the ground is white.

According to the National Weather Service, a few more inches are expected today, with the snow continuing through Tuesday before a brief break. On Thursday, the agency forecasts mostly cloudy weather.

Further north, around Lake Tahoe, other California resorts like Palisades Tahoe and Northstar are still planning to open later this month.

Mammoth Mountain is one of several western ski resorts that have adjusted their opening day plans. In Utah, Brian and Solitude pushed back their season kick offs. Schweitzer, in Idaho, did so, too. While Colorado’s ski season is well under way, the state’s snowpack is lagging, Colorado Public Radiorecently reported

The Northeast, meanwhile, is enjoying a blockbuster start to the ski season, particularly Jay Peak, Vermont. The mountain plans to open this coming weekend and has tallied several feet of natural snow in the past week.

“We are not easing into winter, we are nosediving straight into the thick of it,” Jay Peak wrote in a recent snow report.
