With New Uber Update for Skiers, You Can Buy an Epic Pass in the App
The app that revolutionized the ride-share concept has officially entered the ski space. Uber is now offering Uber Ski, a set of services designed to make getting to and from the mountain with your group that much easier this winter.
Picture this: you’re flying in for your family ski vacation. Your family decided not to rent a car—they don’t like driving in the snow anyway, and they’re out to dinner when your plane gets in.Â
Additionally, the forecast was a bit uncertain, so you haven’t purchased your lift tickets yet because you weren’t quite sure how many days you’d be skiing.Â
Enter Uber Ski. The ride-share app’s new features were also created in partnership with Vail Resorts to allow users to purchase Epic Pass products directly in the app.Â
Full Epic Passes as well as 1-7 Day passes are available through the app and offer pass holders a number of additional perks, including 20% off on-mountain food, beverages, lodging, group lessons, equipment rentals, and more. You can open the Uber app the day before your trip and purchase lift tickets for the days that look best.Â

But there’s still the question of getting to the mountain every day without a rental car. The town you’re going to doesn’t have the best public transit, and you didn’t want to pay for parking anyway.Â
With the new service, Uber users can book rides with enough room for four people and their skis, and get rides right to the mountain. Users can book an Uber XL for up to two people or an Uber XXL for up to four people, and reserve their ride up to 90 days in advance.Â
In addition to the new Uber Ski program, the app has added features that allow Uber users to cover riders for other users, as well as more airport destinations.Â
With the new “Send a Ride” feature, users set a number of rides and a dollar limit (for example, two rides, up to $50 each). The app then generates a shareable link that can be passed along. The person receiving the ride clicks the link, credit is applied to their Uber wallet, and is automatically applied. The person gifting rides only pays for the amount used.Â
Now, one of your family members can send you a ride, so you don’t have to worry about covering the cost when Ubering from the airport or elsewhere.
While anyone who’s tried to Uber in a ski town knows it can be a bit hit or miss, there’s no doubt certain locations will benefit hugely from skiers using a ride share to get to and from the mountain. Especially resorts that are contained and renting a car isn’t really necessary, these new features could also make getting to and from the airport, mountain, and other activities much easier.
