Whiteface Resort Opening Day Set After 18 Inches of Snow
More and more ski areas are reaping the benefits of the snowy cycle that’s moved through New England and the East Coast over the last week.
Following joyful announcements that Killington and Sunday River would both be opening this week, more ski areas, such as Jay Peak, are setting opening dates, blasting snow guns to help things fill in, and gearing up for ski season to begin.
As of Wednesday, November 12, Whiteface Resort has officially hopped on the opening bandwagon after 18 inches of snow have tallied up at the New York resort.
Whiteface has had 160 snow guns working around the clock for much of the last two weeks in preparation for the resort’s opening, and Mother Nature finally dropped in to help them out.
Saturday, November 15, marks Whiteface’s opening day for the 2025-26 ski season, with lifts starting to spin at 10 am. The mountain will only be open through the weekend, before fully reopening on November 22 and 23.
Only the Summit Chair will open for skiing this coming weekend, and skiers will be required to download back to the main base area via the Face Lift. Whiteface is expecting continued cold temperatures and trace amounts of new snow each day for the next week or so.

Stowe Mountain also received nine inches of snow overnight at the summit. Stowe’s base area got six inches of heavier snow, which is great for building a good resort base.
High moisture levels and marginal wet bulb temperatures have made snowmaking a little more difficult at Stowe, but the forecast is calling for a bit more natural snow.
So far, they’ve gotten 27 inches of snow this season, and Stowe is currently scheduled to open on November 22, conditions permitting.

Additionally, Bolton Valley got 7 inches of snow overnight and is planning to open on November 28 for the season.
Cannon Mountain, Mad River Glen, Smuggler’s Notch, and Sugarbush have all seen healthy amounts of precipitation in the last week as well. Whatever East Coast skiers are doing, it’s working! Winter is here!
