Northeast Ski Resorts Have Opened: Here’s Where You Can Ski Now

The chilly weather that has arrived on the East Coast and New England over the past week has brought on quite a good start to winter.

So good, in fact, that several major Northeast ski areas are already opening for the season. While many western states have had to delay openings or are biting their nails watching the forecast as opening dates inch closer, East Coast skiers are rejoicing as lifts start to spin.

November 12, 2025, marks the opening day for the beloved Vermont ski area, Killington.

Lifts started spinning with the most opening day terrain in recent history and 4 inches of fresh snow in the last 24 hours. The K-1 Express Gondola and North Ridge Quad will both be open from 9 am until 4 pm, providing access to multiple trails and 22 acres of skiable terrain.

Snowmaking and grooming teams are hard at work to open more terrain.

Killington season pass holders, Beast 365 pass holders, and Ikon Pass holders are all able to ski on the 12th, and the mountain will open to the general public on Thursday, November 13.

This season also marks the second year Killington will operate as an independently owned mountain, following its sale in the fall of 2024.

Maine’s Sunday River also opened for the season on November 12. While they haven’t been quite as lucky with precipitation, it’s been plenty cold, and snowmaking teams have been hard at work to get the mountain ready to open.

To kick off the season, Sunday River opened its Locke Mountain Triple lift at 9 am sharp this morning and will spin it until 3 pm. Skiers are able to lap T2 from the top of the lift to the mid-station, but must download when they’re done for the day.

Similar to Killington, Sunday River is only open to New England Pass, Mountain Collective, Ikon Pass, or Ticket Pack pass holders for the 12th.

The mountain will open to the general public on Thursday, November 13. With another storm system moving in through the weekend, Sunday River could see one to three more inches of snow before Monday, November 17th. Keep your eyes out and wax your skis, East Coasters!
