After Almost a Foot of Snow, Jay Peak Announces Soft Opening
One of the United States’ snowiest resorts has decided on its opening day for the 2025/26 ski season. Following a storm that dropped 6-10″ of fresh snow, Jay Peak announced that they would soft open for the season on November 22 and 23.
The ski area’s official opening date is November 28, 2025, but this last dump of snow clearly got them excited to kick things off a little early.Â
For the soft opening later this month, Jay Peak is planning to open some advanced terrain off of the Jet Triple chair and a bit of beginner/intermediate terrain off the Taxi Quad chair.
Jay Peak has already seen 23 inches of snow this season, and snowmakers continue to work and fill in what Mother Nature hasn’t quite gotten to yet. Snow guns are on full blast to help with coverage below Heavens Road, and Jay is working to open as much terrain as possible between the soft open and official opening day.
The resort noted that, given the time of year, skiers should check the Jay Peak snow report for the latest updates.

Looking ahead, a continued northwest flow will hopefully bring an additional 2-3″ of snow to Jay Peak on Thursday, November 13, and another 1-2″ on Friday, November 14.Â
Between snow early this week and the last bit coming towards the end, Jay Peak should receive 12-17 inches in total from this latest storm cycle. Temperatures are looking to stay relatively cold as well, which should help to preserve all that early-season snowfall as the soft opening approaches.Â
Last season, Jay Peak reported some of the highest snow totals in the continental US. As of the end of March, Jay Peak had seen a whopping 436″ of snow, only trailing notoriously snowy spots like Alta, UT, Jackson, WY, and Mt. Baker, WA in snow totals.Â
As the 2025-26 season rolls around, many western states are hurting for early-season precipitation, while resorts like Jay Peak are off to a good start.Â
Sunday River in Maine and Killington in Vermont both opened for the season on November 12, giving Northeast skiers several options for skiing ahead of Thanksgiving.
