World Cup Alpine Skier Works With FIS To Make Sustainability-Focused Card Game

Italian World Cup alpine skier and illustrator Elena Curtoni teamed up with FIS Sustainability Director Susanna Sieff and the FIS Sustainability Team to create a card game where snow sports and sustainability go hand in hand. Winter Trail to Nature presents players with questions about nature and sustainability on the slopes, along with challenges that encourage direct engagement with the environment.

The card game grew from a hope to make sustainability both fun and accessible. By working with an active athlete as a creative partner, the FIS was able to bring a unique perspective into the project, combining firsthand skiing experience with skills in imaginative visual storytelling.
Winter Trail to Nature is meant for all ages and all skill levels, asking players to answer questions focused on nature and sustainability in snow sports. When someone answers incorrectly, they’re asked to complete a penalty, whether it be a push-up or admitting their biggest carbon-footprint sin.
While the card game is currently focused on skiing and snowboarding, both Elena and Susanne hope to reach other sports and communities through the playful and educational messages. It serves as a platform for dialogue, creativity, and awareness, all without intending to lose an ounce of fun.
