For most of us, loading and unloading a chairlift is second nature at this point. Asking a seasoned skier if they know how to ride a lift is like asking a person if they know how to sit in a couch. But for newcomers to the sport, getting on and off these moving chairs can be seriously intimidating, especially for the youngsters.

As the season is just starting to get going around the northern hemisphere, now is a great time for a reminder, or introduction, to chairlift safety. This fun little video from Colorado Ski Country USA provides a great visualization for the first timers among us, helping them to prepare for their first day on the mountain.

If you’re worries about riding a lift for the first time, feel free to ask for assistance. Lift attendants can slow or stop the lift at the bottom and top to make getting on and off easier. Make sure you lower the bar when you board and lift the bar before unloading. It gets a whole lot easier after your first ride.
