It’s a wrap! PlanetSKI ends its season again in Val Thorens

The big news in Val Thorens for this winter is all about lifts and on-snow developments.

Firstly the Cime Caron cable car is re-opening after being out of action for the whole of last winter after an accident before the season even opened.

Now it is back in action with two brand new cable cars.

“This re-opening marks a major milestone for the resort and the ski area as it restores direct access to to the summitt,” said a statement from the resort.

“From Val Thorens visitors will one again enjoy the spectacular ride up to one of the most breathtaking panorams in the Alps right at the heart of the Three Vallees.”

There is also a new 10-seater gondola called Face Nord from Doppelmayr that replaces the old Glacier and Col chairlifts.

It gives direct access to the Asters and Face Nord slopes and links strategically to the Orelle sector via the Lory blue run.

The new lifts improve access, capacity and skier-flow, which helps reduce bottlenecks on busy days and especially high season.

The Caron 3,200 complex was new last season and sits at the top of the resort.

It is a statement of luxury plus high-altitude experience: great for non-skiers or mixed groups wanting café/terrace access at the summit.

Val Thorens rates itself as one of the top resorts in France with an average occupancy rate of 85%.

It has 2.26m overnight stays in its 25,543 tourist beds – up 11.47% on the previous year.

It had 1.9m skier days last season.
