Around a decade ago, the site was considered for a casino, with potential to provide an ice arena, skiing, horseback riding, zip lines, golf, and so much more to go alongside the games. But a different resort was chosen, and Nevele has since sat abandoned, serving as a desolate reminder of the past and what could have been.

In March 2024, the “Winter Building” at Nevele Grand Hotel caught fire and burnt to the ground. Then in January 2025, a second fire engulfed the main building, causing extensive damage to the abandoned resort. It’s not 100% clear who or what caused the fires, though the hotel is known to attract both ghost hunters and squatters.
