Criticism as Price of Lift Passes Rise in Italy
Prices are poised to rise by as much as 40% compared with 2021, according to a report compiled by the watchdog, Assoutenti.
A “Dolomiti Superski” pass that gives access to all 12 resorts in the Dolomites will rise to €86 (£75) a day this season.
The Italian ski area is already under formal investigation by Italy’s Antitrust Authority, AGCM, over claims of lift pass price fixing and restrictions on competition.
An inspection at the premises of Federconsorzio Dolomiti SuperSki and the twelve local Consortia was carried out last July by the Authority’s officials, assisted by the Special Antitrust Unit of the Italian Financial Police.
We reported on it earlier on PlanetSKI:
In Roccaraso, a popular resort in Abruzzo’s Apennines the cost of a daily ski pass is expected to rise to €60.
The cost of seasonal ski passes will range from between €755 per adult in Roccaraso to as much as €1,800 in the Aosta valley.

Ski resort operators blame the rise on higher energy prices, the cost of maintaining resorts and demand for better quality lifts.
The president of Assoutenti, Gabriele Melluso, said the price rises were “completely unjustified and unacceptable, both because inflation in Italy is under control and energy tariffs, which had increased costs for ski resort operators in 2022, have returned to normal.”
He added that prices were now so high that ski holidays were unaffordable for the the less wealthy.
Last season there were 1 million fewer Italians on the slopes compared with the previous winter.
Here at PlanetSKI we believe that overall Italy remains a cheaper place to ski than the other major alpine destinations of Switzerland, France and Austria.
