Ski Club Starts Fundraiser To Make Racing Facility Even Better

Franconia, New Hampshire — The replacement of the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway isn’t the only big change going on at the New Hampshire ski area.
Over the past decade, the Franconia Ski Club has been modernizing the Mittersill side of Cannon. When the new chairlift opened in 2011, Mittersill was a terrain zone open only when there was sufficient natural snowpack. This wasn’t a common occurrence on the Ice Coast, so the Franconia Ski Club began work with Cannon to turn most of this side into a ski-racing facility.
First came the phase numero uno, which included making Baron’s Run and Taft Training Slope race trails, installing the Valar T-Bar, and installing snowmaking on the Mitersill side. Phase two included the opening of the Mittersill Performance Center (MPC), which included a new lodge. Preparations for the third phase are now underway.
Last week, fundraising started for Mittersill Phase 3. This will include buying hundreds of snowmaking hoses, over 30 land guns, and dozens of stick guns. These guns will be available to use by November 1st each season. These changes will eliminate the need for Cannon’s operational team to move equipment from other portions of the vast ski area. This will also allow a mid-station on Valer, enabling early-season training. The goal is to raise $100,000 by November 1st.
The fundraiser is happening now because the Franconia Ski Club can purchase HKD snowguns and earn a roughly 50% NH energy rebate, which expires at the end of 2025.
