Killington to Debut a Brand New Six-Pack Lift

When a beloved Vermont ski area found itself with a new set of owners last year, it also earned it’s way to a $38M makeover.

Killington, which was purchased from POWDR Corp by a group of Vermont-based investors, is now in the midst of a multi-year transformation to enhance the resort’s guest experience all year round.

So, what’s on the docket for the ski area?

Most recently, Killington announced a new Snowdon Six Express, which will be a high-speed six-person bubble lift made by Leitner Poma. The new lift will access primarily intermediate terrain off Snowdon Mountain peak.

The new lift aims to reinvigorate the terrain in the area, which previously was used as more of a ‘pass through’ between Ramshead and Killington peak. The new Snowdon peak will replace the mountains old Snowdon Quad, which was aptly nicknamed ‘Slowdown Quad.’ The $6.5M new lift will load in a slightly different spot than the old lift, but follow generally the same trajectory. Construction on the new lift will begin in the spring with an anticipated opening during the 2026/27 ski season.

Additionally, Killington worked to replace the Superstar Express Quad over the summer, which was originally installed in 1987, with a brand-new high-speed six person lift to increase uphill capacity and improve reliability. The new lift is a Doppelmayr UNI-G chair, which is the first of its kind at Killington, and will follow the same trajectory with some movement of towers. Pieces of the old lift will be repurposed at Pico and the remaining steel will be recycled and salvaged. The new chair is on track to open in December of 2025.

At the same time, all 116 cabins on the Skyeship Gondola are being replaced with modern versions and a new gondola barn to house them as well. The resort auctioned off 87 of the old cabins, which were originally installed in 1994, and each feature a unique paint job. The surface lift on Snowshed will also be replaced, to provide better access to beginner trails.

Alongside the major lift upgrades, Killington is also putting a chunk of the investment into new snowmaking infrastructure. Between this year and next, the mountain will install 1,000 new low-energy HKD tower and fan snow guns, which will significantly improve efficiency and coverage across the mountain. Four new fully automated fan guns are also being installed on Superstar trail, which will aide the mountain’s ability to make and maintain snow early and late in the season. Killington has also made moves in other resort infrastructure upgrades like a new heavy-duty plow truck and five new groomers.

For the summer season, a new lift-served mountain bike trail is on deck to open during summer of 2026 with more trails currently in the permitting process. The new trails were designed alongside Gravity Logic, one of the most renowned trail building companies in downhill mountain biking.
