Autumn Snow is Falling in the Alps with More to Come

Snow has been falling to 2,500m in the last 24-hours.

On Thursday it looks like it will kick off to many lower areas and continue.

“Over the next few days, the heaviest precipitation will fall in the western and north-western Alps, where 50-80cm of snow is likely above 2,800m by the end of the week in parts of France and western Switzerland,” said the alpine weather expert, Fraser Wilkin from weathertoski.co.uk.

“However, eastern regions could also see some significant snow over the weekend and into next week,” Fraser added.

Here’s what it currently looks like as the storm approaches.

There are several glacier areas in the Alps currently open.

Glacier ski areas currently open in the Alps:

  • Austria: Pitztal, Hintertux, Stubai, Soelden, Kaunertal, Kitzsteinhorn & Molltal.
  • Italy: Passo Stelvio & Val Senalis.
  • Switzerland: Zermatt & Saas-Fee.

This weekend the first World Cup alpine ski  race of the season gets underway in Soelden in Austria.
