Elk in Great Sand Dunes National Park.

Authorities with Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado are seeking information related to a suspected elk poaching incident that occurred around September 9th-10th, 2025, in the Hudson drainage area near Mosca, Colorado.

The area occurred in the National Preserve area. Parks authorities are specifically seeking information in relation to a dark-colored Ram pickup truck and an approximately 6-foot tall Caucasian male. The man has brown hair, a close trimmed beard, and was wearing camouflage, a ball cap, and a backpack.

The subject may have had a compound bow with bright fletching in addition to two elk antlers (4-5 points, no skull). If you were in the area or have any information related to the suspected poaching, you’re asked to contact the service by either calling 719-589-5807 or emailing GRSA_Law_Enforcement@nps.gov.
