KIA Telluride Teetering Off Cliff Forces Closure of Colorado Mountain Pass

A man from South Carolina driving a KIA Telluride the wrong way up a one-way road in Colorado forced the closure of popular mountain pass after he got the SUV stuck teetering perilously off a steep switchback.
The San Miguel County Sheriff were forced to close Black Bear Pass on Thursday, October 3rd, 2025 to address the stuck vehicle. The man was advised by several people in the area not to drive up the road but he did so anyway.
“About three to four switchbacks past the falls, he got stuck with wheels off the side of the road, leaving the vehicle unstable.” -San Miguel County Sheriff
The road was closed to traffic for several hours as they waited for a tow which eventually arrived. While the Sheriff’s Office did not specify the vehicle was rental, its had red license plates which signifies it belongs to a business fleet which is often tied to rental car companies.
Thankfully there are no reports of injuries and the road was only closed for few hours. Word to the wise, if you are an out of towner driving a rental car in the mountains and the locals tell you not to go up a road you should probably heed their advice.
