Mt. Bachelor, Oregon Celebrates First Flakes of the Season
If you’re a frequent POWDER reader, there’s a chance you’ve read other articles I’ve written recently about the first snowflakes falling in Colorado and California.
The first snow of the season is exciting pretty much anywhere, and I have been genuinely psyched to see winter start to pay a visit to these places, but this is the article I’ve been waiting to write.
IT SNOWED AT MT BACHELOR!!!!!
HOLY HECK WE’RE SO CLOSE, I CANNOT WAIT FOR SKI SEASON.
Check out Mt. Bachelor’s Instagram post announcing the first flakes on September 29, 2025. Keep reading for more info and photos about the first storm.

Temperatures in Bend finally cooled down on Monday afternoon, and around 3 p.m., it started to rain pretty hard in town. About half an hour up the road and 2,000 ft. higher, that rain finally turned to snow up at Mt. Bachelor.
As of Tuesday morning, a bit of snow stuck around at the highest elevations on the mountain See below. Photos courtesy of Mt. Bachelor.

Temperatures are forecasted to stay cool through the week in Bend and up high at Mt. Bachelor. More rain is forecasted Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with the distinct possibility we could see more flakes.
It’ll get a bit warmer this weekend, but not warmer than mid-high 40s. This coming weekend is closing weekend for the Mt. Bachelor Bike Park and the moisture should make for some incredible trail conditions to close out the bike season.
Mt. Bachelor is currently scheduled to open for the winter season on November 28, 2025. Last year, the mountain opened to pass holders two weeks early, due to an abundance of early season snow. Several long-range forecasts have predicted that the beginning of this winter could mimic the beginning of last winter in the PNW, due to another La Niña pattern.
I’ve said it for other places, but when I say ‘drink your Ullr, do your snow dances, everyone in the PNW pray for snow,’ I REALLY mean it!! Winter is (hopefully) almost here in the PNW!
