Italian Ski Resort to Limit People on Slopes at Busy Periods
The resort made the announcement last April and has now released details on how these limits will be applied.
The ski resort will be restricting how many skiers can be on the slopes on its busiest holiday weeks under a policy called ‘The Perfect Number’.
Madonna di Campiglio will cap daily online ski passes during New Year’s and Carnevale at 14,000–15,000 skiers.
It says this is to preserve safety, slope quality, and the overall ski experience for its guests.
Only the daily passes sold online will be subject to the cap.
Holders of seasonal passes, multi-day passes, special pass programs and residents or holders of local pass options from Pinzolo and Folgarida-Marilleva will be exempt.
Non-skiers using pedestrian lifts will also not be subject to any capacity limits.
Resort management is urging visitors to purchase their daily ski passes in advance to avoid disappointment.
On many peak days, lift operators will also open slopes earlier at 7:30-8:00 a.m. under a program called ‘Ski Earlier’.

Crowded slopes is becoming a major issue for many people and we have reported on it in the past on PlanetSKI:
Austria’s Lech-Oberlech-Zürs and Warth-Schröcken that are part of the Ski Arlberg area also limit day passes to 14,000 skiers and snowboarders.
The policy of limiting the numbers of people on the slopes is more common in North America, with Jackson Hole in Wyoming being one resort that has the policy.
The US resort manages capacity on the mountain by limiting daily tickets and requiring reservations for all IKON and Mountain Collective pass holders.
