Hikers Fight Off Bear Attack In Alaska National Park

On Wednesday, September 24th, 2025, two hikers were reportedly attacked by a brown bear in Alaska’s Kenai Fjords National Park.

According to the Alaska Department of Public Safety, State Troopers received a report about the incident from a local area hospital at around 9:11pm. The two hikers were admitted to the emergency room following the attack.

Both individuals were forced to fight off the bear, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries in the process. The incident occurred about a quarter mile up Exit Glacier Trail in Seward.

The National Park Service has been notified at the trail is closed until further notice. Biologists, Alaska State Troopers, and Alaska Wildlife Troopers were set to assess the area at first light. For the time being, the public is urged to remain vigilant while outdoors and avoid the area.

Due to the incident, the park has closed the Exit Glacier Trail and the park from the gate on Herman Leirer Road 1 mile from the trailhead. Up-to-date conditions and alerts for the area are available here.
