Colorado Parks And Wildlife Euthanizes Deer Stuck With Red Material Around Its Antlers

On September 24th, 2025, Colorado Parks and Wildlife was forced to euthanize a deer that had managed to get red material stuck around its antlers in the Gleneagle area north of Colorado Springs.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) initially asked the public to notify them if the specific buck was spotted on September 23rd, 2025. Unfortunately, while it was still mobile, the animal had clearly sustained some sort of an injury.
@CPW_SE continues to monitor a deer with red material in its antlers, still mobile and now with a visible injury, in the Gleneagle area. Antlered animals are highly resilient and naturally shed antlers annually. If seen, please call CPW with a location: (719) 227-5200 pic.twitter.com/jjP39ByfKp

Sadly the organization determined that the deep injury was a source of needless suffering with certainty to worsen, so CPW chose to put it down. While unfortunate, the region does have a healthy and robust deer population.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife does encouraging removing tangle hazards from your yard and decorate responsibly to protect curious wildlife, especially as Halloween approaches. Hammocks, garden equipment, recreational sports equipment such as soccer and volleyball, decorations, and more can all present a potential danger to wildlife.
