Autumn Snow Falls at Altitude in the Alps as More Glacier Areas Set to Open

It has been a relatively cool and unsettled week in the Alps with some moderate falls of snow high up on the glaciers.

PlanetSKI editor, James Cove, is currently in St Gervais in France for a spot of hiking and sampling the delights of the autumn shoulder season in the Alps.

He has travelled up to the snow line below Mont Blanc.

Here is the view down towards Chamonix in the valley below.

As well as the resorts opening in Austria this weekend four glacier areas are already open in the Alps.

  • Zermatt – Switzerland
  • Saas-Fee – Switzerland
  • Passo Stelvio – Switzerland
  • Val Senales – Switzerland

Other Austrian glaciers like Stubai, Kitzsteinhorn and Mölltal are scheduled to open in October.
