Strength Training Exercises To Prevent ACL Injuries During The Ski Season

Every skier fears the dreaded ACL tear/ACL injury. They’re among the most common injuries in the sport, with ligament injuries in the knee representing about 20-35% of all ski injuries. If you want to prevent these types of injuries when the ski season comes around, then you need to be strength training in the summer and fall.
Doctors at St. Charles Center for Orthopedics & Neurosurgery, located in Oregon, are no strangers to these types of injuries. As such, Dr. Timothy Bollom, Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon at The Center in Bend, Oregon and Medical Director of Mt. Bachelor National Ski Patrol, has provided a few strength training exercises to help prepare for the upcoming season.
The exercises presented in the video include double leg squats, crab walk, deadlift, hamstring curl, single leg step over, and plank, plus additional modifications. Of course the other vital step to preventing knee injuries is ensuring that you’re skiing within your level and with proper form.
