Rocky Mountain National Park Reopens Trail Ridge Road Following Winter Storm

Rocky Mountain National Park was forced to temporarily close Trail Ridge Road on Monday, September 22nd, keeping the road closed until Wednesday afternoon because of snow, freezing temperatures, and ice accumulation on the road.
Trail Ridge Road was closed on the east side of the park at Rainbow Curve and on the west side of the park at Colorado River Trailhead. The closure began at 6pm on Monday. Old Fall River Road was closed at 5pm on Monday and remains closed at this point.
Driving Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park requires a timed entry permit from 9am to 2pm daily. The road takes visitors from Estes Park in the east to Grand Lake in the west, traveling 48 miles with 11 miles above treeline. In a matter of minutes, drivers climb 4,000 feet high into the sky, reaching a high point at 12,183 feet of elevation.

Trail Ridge Road typically closes throughout the winter months, though an exact date on when isn’t yet known. Typically the seasonal closure comes at some point in October.
