The flood watch covers a vast range of areas, including the Tulare Foothills, Tulare Lower Sierra, Grant Grove Area, Kaiser to Rodgers Ridge, Kings Canyon National Park Mariposa Madera Foothills, Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra, San Joaquin River Canyon, Sequoia National Park, Upper San Joaquin River, Yosemite National Park outside of the valley and Yosemite Valley.

Heavy rainfall is expected over the Sierra Nevada. The risk of flash flooding is especially present in areas near the Basin and French Burn Scars and the Garnet Fire. However the flash flooding and debris flows are possible over much of the Sierra Nevada. The flood watch encourages residents and visitors to continue to monitor forecasts as they come out and be prepared to take action should flood warnings be issued.

A flood watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean flooding will occur, but it means it’s possible. A flood warning, on the other hand, is issued when flooding is imminent or occurring. If a flood warning is issued, residents and visitors in the area should be taking action to protect themselves when the flood hits.
