First Dustings of Snow Appear at Altitude
It is of course far too early for any meaningful snow, but the seasons are changing.
Winter is still some way off, but it is getting nearer and nearer.
There has been some snow at Hintertux in Austria that is hoping to reopen its glacier area this month.
There is some skiing and snowboarding on offer at a handful of resorts in the Alps:
There are currently three ski areas open in the Alps:
- Zermatt, Switzerland
- Saas-Fee, Switzerland
- Passo Stelvio, Italy
Some others are hoping to open some runs later in September.
They include Val Senales and Sulden in Italy, plus Pitztal in Austria.
The first resorts in the USA to open a decent amount of terrain are often Arapahoe Basin and Loveland in Colorado.
They have a been battling it out in friendly rivalry to be the first to open for decades.
The first natural snow has fallen as the temperatures have dropped.
