Jackson Hole Celebrates 60th Birthday

Jackson Hole Celebrates 60th Birthday

When Jackson first opened its doors in 1965 the resort’s only ski lift took visitors on a direct trip to the top of Rendezvous Mountain.

Only the bravest could ski from the top to the bottom, more than 4,000 vertical feet.

Jackson Hole is a ski resort that inspires courage, adventure and awe.

It is surrounded by a rugged landscape and untamed wilderness that makes it one of the premier ski destinations in the USA.

Six decades later, it seems the bold spirit that inspired the resort’s first guests is stronger than ever.

The iconic Aerial Tram still whisks the most courageous adventurers high into the Tetons, but thousands of new skiers and snowboarders have learned the mountain via a sprawling network of terrain designed for everyone.

While hardy locals and world travellers still visit JHMR to test their own limits, JHMR has also become a safe and family-friendly resort.

With the tagline “60 Years – One Wild Ride,” Jackson Hole Mountain Resort will celebrate this winter season with a series of 60th Anniversary events, honouring the past and looking toward the future.

JHMR offers 137 days of skiing and riding from Friday November 28th 2025 through to Sunday April 12th, 2026.

It will once again manage capacity on the mountain by limiting daily tickets and requiring reservations for all IKON and Mountain Collective pass holders.

The resort encourages everyone to plan ahead for their trip as lift tickets may sell out and reservations for IKON and Mountain Collective Passes can fill up, especially on holidays and weekends.

To help plan a Jackson Hole vacation package, guests can take advantage of the Jackson Hole Resort Reservations (JHRR) full destination reservation service, offering complete vacation packages that include air, lodging, transportation, lift tickets and activities.

The US resort has been a mecca for snowboarding since the sport was invented.

“The past 60 years have made for one wild ride at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort,” said a statement from the resort.

“The journey to the next 60 begins now.”

PlanetSKI last visited back in 2017.

JHMR has 2,500 acres of in-bounds terrain and 3,500 acres of backcountry access, all nestled in the beauty of the Tetons.

It is is a five-hour drive from Salt Lake City and an eight-hour drive from Denver – both airports are popular with skiers and snowboarders flying from the UK.

There are non-stop direct flights from twelve major US cities, now including Washington D.C. (Dulles).

Split over two mountains, Apres Vous and Rendezvous, the resort’s 14 lifts give access to some widespread and varied terrain for all skier and rider types.

JHMR is notoriously known for being challenging and steep.

However, over a decade of enhancements have seen the development of state-of-the-art operations, facilities, and programming dedicated to the beginner and intermediate experience.

This year will also mark the first full season for the new Sublette lift.

It is a faster and more powerful detachable quad chairlift that cuts riding time in half for skiers and snowboarders exploring the south side of Rendezvous Mountain with a variety of intermediate and expert terrain just below Rendezvous Bowl.

We reported on its introduction last winter:

The new Sublette lift marks the second major lift renovation at JHMR in recent years, completed in 2024, after a new Thunder lift was completed in 2022.

Earlier this year, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort won the Best Overall Safety Program for resorts with more than 500,000 annual visitors, an honour given by the National Ski Areas Association.

It is the culmination of JHMR’s commitment to safety on and off the slopes of Rendezvous Mountain.

In addition to increased signage across the Resort focused on safety awareness, JHMR has established Family Zones in beginner terrain and congested areas with mixed ability levels and age groups.

Marked with clear signage and speed-control fencing, Family Zones remind skiers and riders about entering areas where children and beginners ski at slower speeds, and encourage a more cautious approach.

JHMR has also introduced designated rest areas on the mountain where guests can stop in safe, visible areas.

JHMR also increased enforcement and accountability for reckless skiing and riding, and the resort has increased its staffing of Speed Wranglers in designated areas.

Major Events for Next Winter:

KINGS & QUEENS OF CORBET’S

The formidable “experts-only” visual and physical centerpiece of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, this iconic couloir is recognised as North America’s biggest, baddest, boldest ski run and is largely sought-after by skiers and riders looking for the ultimate test of their technical mettle.
