Why you need a SKI Instructor?

In these past 5 years, people are going insane in the use of technology in the ski industry, among these is the famous Getcarv.com app, the self-ski monitor. I was very interested in this device among many enthusiastic skiers that would like to identify their mature ability and ski level ranking.

I can say that I was very impressed by this technology despite my experiences in the IT field for the last 3 decades. I love technology like many others do!

Last season “2021-2022” I classified 139 out of 15649 among listed users on the leader board. Wow, what kind of achievements have I made? I was overjoyed by the result and extremely satisfied. I follow every single drill recommended by the application until I catch the Covid-19. We were infected as a family and were in lockdown, I was away for 4 weeks off the season from the first week of March till the first week of April, my preferable time for skiing. My score remains 154.

After that, I asked myself an interesting question, why these big names that we follow on YouTube are not on the leaderboard?

I didn’t get any answer till now since I didn’t dare to ask anyone the reason behind that. I think I get the answer by myself as soon as I start seeking technical help from many ski instructors this season “2022-2023”.

Now I am starting to understand why I need to have a ski instructor if I need to be an expert skier. Technology won’t lead you to the top, it can help you adjust your body, and monitor smoothness, inclination, angulation, pressure, etc. but only for 2 or 3 end purposes. Skiing is an open sport that evolves with the years and has many schools with different concepts.

There are some schools that proposed to work on fore-aft, and some ski schools that will recommend you stay center, I can name Reilly McGlashan within these instructors and pro skiers he does not use the fore-aft concept as an example.

Any demo video on YouTube will help you adjust your style and get some tricks but it’s not enough, any recommendation from any robotic ski instructor will help you but not enough. From a robotic point of view, the application applies business rules set behind it. These business rules come from a source that is hidden and not clear what kind of concept is followed and who is the one that recommends all of that. Sometimes it is recommended by a ski word champion according only to his style and experience.

Even if I was within the top 2 percent of carvers worldwide, I seek help and I am still doing it. Ski congress, ski camps, advice, and academy are the keys to success being an advanced skier.

For those reasons, you need a ski instructor to evolve your ski ability to become an expert skier.
